Every child deserves the best possible start in life and here at Leicester Grammar Junior School we provide a safe and secure environment where children can make the most of their abilities and talents and reach their full potential.

Communication with parents is of paramount importance and parents are encouraged to support the learning and development of their child. Throughout the year, parents are offered a range of workshops to ensure continuity between home and school and there are opportunities for parents to be actively involved in craft afternoons and cooking sessions.

The children experience a full and varied curriculum, including visits to places of local interest, for example. The Curve Theatre and West Lodge Rural Centre.

Kinders (Foundation Stage One)

Pupils join Kinders in the September following their third birthday. Children are given opportunities to consolidate essential skills through a combination of adult-directed tasks and play-related activities. The children are cared for by a dedicated team of nursery nurses and classroom assistants led by a qualified teacher.

The Foundation Stage curriculum is enhanced by input from specialist music and PE teachers to provide a balanced and stimulating environment to support academic, creative and physical development.

Reception (Foundation Stage Two)

Pupils join Reception in the September following their fourth birthday. There are three classes, each benefiting from the skills of a qualified teacher and nursery nurse.

Reception is a natural progression from Kinders and there continue to be ample opportunities for children to consolidate essential skills through a balance of adult-directed tasks and play-related activities.

The learning is always hands-on, exciting and innovative and more traditional teaching methods are enhanced by the use of computers, iPads and interactive whiteboards.

The curriculum continues to be enhanced by input from specialist music and PE teachers with the additional support of a French specialist.
