Music and Drama
Music plays an important part in the life of every child at the Junior School. As they progress through the Infant part of the school, pupils learn to sing and respond to many different styles of music. In year 2 they learn to play the recorder and read basic notation.
All children are encouraged to learn an orchestral instrument with a specialist teacher. A wide variety of instrumental tuition is available. Over a hundred children are currently learning and performing.
In addition to curriculum music there are extra curricular music clubs, professional performances, musical productions, music festivals and regular opportunities to perform in concerts.
The school takes pride in the quality of its singing in assemblies, church services, and concerts.
There are also many choral opportunities linked to drama. Recent successes include ‘Robin Hood’, ‘Scheherazade’, ‘Bugsy Malone’, ‘Me and My Girl’ and ‘Guys and Dolls’.
Our aim is that every child in the school develops a love of music whether it be composing, performing or listening and for this valued subject to be fun and enjoyed by all.
Art and Design Technology
Art and Design Technology are developed at appropriate times within other curricular areas such as English, History, Geography and Science. They are used to extend the pupil’s involvement in the wider curriculum and provide an opportunity for lively displays throughout the school.
