Jigsaw PHSE

PSHE Education (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) is a planned programme of learning through which children and young people acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to successfully manage their lives – now and in the future. As part of a whole-school approach, PSHE Education develops the qualities and attributes children need to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society. At Leicester Grammar Junior School each class, from Kinders to Year 6, has a dedicated weekly PSHE lesson and to help pupils engage with the lessons we use the Jigsaw PSHE scheme to structure the learning. You can read more about the Jigsaw scheme in the guide for parents and carers and by looking at the curriculum overviews.

Jigsaw, the mindful approach to PSHE includes the statutory RSHE (Relationships Education, Sex Education and Health Education) and has a strong focus on emotional and mental health and wellbeing. Leicester Grammar Junior School believes this work is vital to support children’s development and to underpin their learning capacity, and recognise that it is most effective when parents and carers work in partnership with the school. You can discover more about the RSHE elements of the curriculum in the Jigsaw RSHE guide and in the vocabulary list which has been developed by LGJS staff, pupils and parents.
