Senior Leadership

Mrs Sophia Ashworth Jones
Headmistress

Sophia began her career as a teacher aged twenty one, after qualifying from Leeds University with a BSc QTS.  With swift progression into Headship, she has enjoyed an extremely varied and rewarding career in leadership in education across the UK and overseas.  For over twenty years, she has led and worked in nurseries, infant, junior, prep and boarding settings and insists on continuing to teach alongside her headship commitments. Making sure that all children feel valued, with a healthy sense of self-worth and belonging is a priority for Sophia, knowing that the early chapters of schooling play a huge part in shaping lifelong learners and happy adults.

Sophia joined the Leicester Grammar School Trust as Head of the junior school in 2021 where she enjoys the powerful sense of community and support that accompanies the role.

When not at work, Sophia is likely to be found enjoying live music, creating at her sewing machine or out and about in nature.

Mrs Rachel Strong
Deputy Head [Pastoral]

Rachel graduated from UCL with a degree in Biological Sciences, however from a young age knew she wanted to pursue a career in teaching. She joined Leicester Grammar Junior School as a Key Stage 1 teacher in 1997 and has served the school community as a classroom teacher in Kinders, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. In recent years Rachel has focussed on the pastoral development of junior school pupils and is currently the Deputy Head Pastoral and Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), roles which, in 2023, led her to complete a Masters qualification in inclusive education. Rachel retains her enthusiasm and passion for early childhood development and continues to lead the dedicated team in Kinders.

Rachel is married and has a son and two dogs. When time allows, she enjoys good food, spending time outside in her garden and going for long walks with her dogs.

Mr David Fulton
Deputy Head [Academic]

After graduating from Durham University with a degree in Primary Education, David joined Leicester Grammar Junior School from Trent College in 2009. Since then, he has taught across Key Stage Two, joining the Senior Leadership team in 2015. As Academic Deputy Head, David oversees teaching and learning throughout the school, supporting staff and pupils alike in striving for excellence. He has a particular passion for STEM education and teaches Computing to all KS2 pupils, allowing him to get to know each of them as a learner.

Outside of school, David enjoys spending time with his family, travelling the world and exploring the outdoors.
